Program types
Five types of programs are offered in the Department: four-year day and evening bachelor’s degree programs for vocational senior high school graduates, two-year day and evening bachelor’s degree programs for junior college graduates, and a five-year associate degree program for junior high school graduates.

Educational objectives
The Department provides students with different mechanical technologies such as design, manufacturing, and automation with an emphasis on mechatronics to meet the needs of national construction and development. In addition, the Department also helps students build a solid foundation for further studies if they wish to continue their education.

Departmental features
The Department possesses advanced equipments in mechatronics, including training modules of mechatronics, a flexible manufacturing system, a computer-integrated manufacturing system, and a six-axis moving platform. Using these training modules of mechatronics, students in the Department get certificates of mechatronics, win mechatronic contests in Taiwan, and represent Taiwan to participate in international competitions. Studies on mechatronics and mechanical design/manufacture are very active. About 10 projects are conducted and tens of EI or SCI papers are published every year. The Department also develops robot technologies. The robots taking care of babies and walking as a spider were fabricated in 2008.

Departmental facilities
There are 22 laboratories in the Department, including a hydraulic and pneumatic laboratory, a materials laboratory, a ceramic material laboratory, a thermal & fluid dynamic laboratory, a metrology laboratory, an NC machine laboratory, a special project laboratory, an optical laboratory, a reverse engineering laboratory, a CAD/CAM laboratory, an automatic control laboratory, an industrial control laboratory, a mechatronic laboratory, a PLC laboratory, a man-machine interface laboratory, a food machinery laboratory, a medical automation laboratory, a robot laboratory, an electronic and electrical laboratory, a computer aided drawing room, and a computer aided design room. In addition, there are workshops for machining and welding.

Student career development
Students in the five-year program may take the entrance examination to enter two-year programs for junior college graduates at Hwa Hsia Institute or other universities to get a bachelor’s degree. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, students may further their studies at graduate schools related to mechanical engineering at home or abroad. If they wouldn’t like to continue their education, they may pursue a career in design and manufacture of mechanical parts, machine control program design, machine operation, machine assembly, machine maintenance and management, etc.
