Objectives of General Education

Human education can be divided into professional education and general education. The former is designed to cultivate professional and occupational skills so that students can be employed in the job market after graduation. Although earning a living is important, it is only part of our lives. Successful and satisfying lives require a wide range of skills and knowledge. It is the aim of general education that gives students a breadth of knowledge and understanding across the major disciplines of humanities and arts, social science, and natural science, which is a balance and complement to the depth provided by students’ majors. Therefore, general education can address needs and objectives not adequately served by professional education. In addition, through different disciplines, students will not only expand their horizons but will also acquire different modes of inquiry, which will inspire them to deal with issues and problems from different perspectives.

Curriculum Features

● Language abilities in both English and Chinese are emphasized.
